840 Public Gifts to The Schools
The Board of Education welcomes gifts and donations for support of school programs.
The Board of Education shall have discretion in accepting or rejecting offers of gifts and donations.
The District shall not discriminate in the acceptance of administration of gifts, bequests, scholarships and other aids, benefits or services to students from private agencies, organizations or persons on the basis of sex, race, religion, national origin, color ancestry, creed, pregnancy, marital or parental status, sexual orientation, physical, mental, emotional or learning disability or handicap.
Discrimination complaints shall be processed in accordance with established procedures.
Some support groups may be more active than others. There may also be cases where some groups are more effective than others, and that not all schools have a support group or some schools have more support groups than others. These differences in support may jeopardize the balance of resources among school. The school board and administration may consider such differences in imbalances during the budget and planning process.
It should be understood that it is the responsibility of the Board to spend adequate monies raised through school taxes and other funding sources to purchase necessary and needed equipment for the schools. If money is not available, however, the parent group should be free to choose items to be acquired and donated to the schools with the approval of the superintendent/designee. The fact that a donor has given a certain gift to one school does not preclude the purchase of such equipment, supplies, or services for other schools by the Board.
The purchase of equipment on a matching fund basis (part of cost provided by an individual or organization and part by the school board from public funds) can be considered on an individual basis following review by the superintendent/designee.
