751      Student Transportation Services

It shall be the purpose of this policy to provide for safe, economical and comfortable transportation of pupils and others who may be legally transported to and from school and to and from such school related activities as may be approved by the school administration, consistent with the philosophy and objectives of the school district.

Transportation shall be provided as required by and may be provided as permitted by the Wisconsin Statutes.  Families may be required to register for transportation services at the time of the annual school registration. New students and late registrations may require up to one week before placement on a bus service route.

Students not living in or passing through hazardous areas and living within two miles of their assigned school shall not be transported.  Student shall not be transported to any day care within the two mile limit unless it is located in or passes through a hazardous zone.  Children with a disability as outlined by law of the school district, may be transported from the child’s residence to the school of attendance authorized by the Board of Education regardless of distance, provided the child’s behavior and health factors are such that he/she can be safely transported without danger to himself and others on a reasonably appropriate and feasible contract carrier.

This provision for transportation includes children with disabilities attending facilities other than public schools, which have been recognized by the Board of Education as meeting the criteria for definition of a private school.
