Panthers in the Playoffs

Bowling

The Plymouth High School boys team won its Wisconsin High School Bowling Club sectional Feb. 12 and has advanced to the State tournament March 2-4 in Appleton.

Going into sectionals, the team was in a two-way tie with the Howards Grove/Sheboygan Falls/Elkhart Lake Team for the division title. The team bowled 21 games of baker bowling at sectionals, coming back from a 30-pin loss against Campbellsport the first game of match play to win the second game 203 to 134, beating Campbellsport and taking conference championship.

The team consists of seniors Jacob Matt, Kyle Menne and Zachary Strege; junior Steven Heling; and sophomore Joe Goeser and Preston Beyers. Coaches are Michael Strege and Jim Heling.

The girls team also competed in sectionals Feb. 11. Stephanie Winkel, who took third in her division, is advancing as an individual to the State tournament March 2-4 in Menasha.

 

Boys swimming and diving

The Panthers finished 23rd at the WIAA Division 2 State championships Feb. 17 in Madison.

Junior Cormick Hnilicka was 11th in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.03.

The team of Hnilicka, junior Mitch Tourner, senior Josh Smith and senior Wendell Strutz was 14th in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:33.78.

The team was 15th in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:29.07.

The Panthers finished 5th at their Division 2 WIAA sectional, held Feb. 10 and 11 in Cedarburg. Click here for sectional results.

 

Wrestling

The Panthers sent four wrestlers to the Division 1 WIAA individual sectionals held Feb. 18 in Kaukauna. Competing for Plymouth were:

132 pounds: Trevor Miske, who lost by decision to Barrett Rehm of Watertown
138 pounds: Austin Wiese, who lost by pin to Cameron Kleven of Oshkosh West
152 pounds: Jakob Ohman, who lost by pin to Nick Becker of Hartford Union
170 pounds: Bryce Lueck, who lost by decision to Jackson Bailey of Beaver Dam
220 pounds: John Pruitt, who lost by decision to Matt Veneskey of Oshkosh North

Boys basketball

The Panthers have a bye for the first round of the Division 2 WIAA regionals, which begin Tuesday, Feb. 28. They will host the winner of the West Bend West vs. Kewaskum game at 7 p.m. Friday, March 2, with the regional finals on Saturday, March 3.

Sectionals will be March 8 at Sheboygan South, with the finals March 10 at Fond du Lac. The State tournament is March 15-17 in Madison.

 

Girls basketball

WIAA regionals are March 6 and 9, with the finals March 10. The higher-seeded team will host the game; pairings have not yet been released. Sectionals will be March 15 at Sheboygan North, with the finals March 17 at Fond du Lac. The State tournament is March 22-24 in Madison.

 

Danceline

The Plymouth High School Danceline took fifth in Wisconsin Association of Cheer/Pom Coaches regional competition Jan. 28 at Oshkosh North, just missing a trip to State by one place.

 

Hockey

The Sheboygan South Co-Op team, which features two PHS students on varsity, lost 2-1 to the Germantown Co-op team Feb. 14 at Blue Line Ice Center in Sheboygan in the first round of WIAA regionals.
