PHS presents Winter Band Concert

The Plymouth High School bands performed Jan. 16 during their annual Winter Band Concert.

Guest composer/conductor was Ronald C. Knoener of Plymouth, whose works have been performed by middle school, high school, college/university, community and military bands in Wisconsin and across the United States.

Mr. Knoener retired after teaching for 23 years and managing a music store for 12 years. He was principal euphonium player in the Kiel Municipal Band for 38 years, and now is a member of the Lakeshore Wind Ensemble in Manitowoc.

He is a graduate of Lakeland College and Vandercook College of Music, and was commissioned by the Lakeland College Alumni Association to write a piece commemorating the founding of the college. Another of his pieces has been chosen to be performed by the Wisconsin State Middle Level Honors Band at the state music convention in October 2012.

The Concert Band played “Simple Gifts” by Frank Ticheli, “Hambe o Uta” by Ronald C. Knoener and “The Spirit of Orpheus” by Robert W. Smith.

The Symphonic Band performed themes from "Green Bushes" by Percy Grainger and arranged by Larry Daehn, “The Green Glens of Antrim” by Ronald C. Knoener and “Loudoun Praises” by Brian Balmages.

The Wind Ensemble Band performed “The Hub City March” by Ronald C. Knoener, “Chaconne” by Johann Sebastian Bach and arranged by Larry Daehn and “Midnight on Main Street” by Brian Balmages.
