Parkview Walk-a-Thon raises $9,500
Posted October 24, 2011

Parkview Elementary School in Plymouth raised more than $9,500 at its recent Walk-a-Thon.

About 255 students, family members and staff members participated in the walk, which was held from 1 to 3 p.m. Oct. 8 on the Plymouth High School track. The PHS Panther mascot joined the walkers.

“We'd like to thank all the local businesses and families that made our third annual Walk-a-Thon a huge success,” said Valerie Halvorson, president of the school’s Parents and Teachers for our Kids organization.

Students raised pledges from relatives, friends and neighbors before the walk, the school’s main fundraiser. Each student who met the goal of $35 received a free T-shirt. The top pledge earner in each grade gets a pizza party lunch with Principal John Mather. The overall top pledge earner for the school gets a $25 gift certificate to the school’s book fair.

The money raised will be used for fieldtrips, assemblies, science programs, staff support, family nights and major equipment purchases.

Students and families walked around the track with music provided free of charge by Starbrite DJ. Students earned a raffle ticket for each lap completed, providing a chance to win one of 25 $10 gift certificates to the school’s book fair.

In addition to walking, there were infield activities such as pumpkin bowling and sack races. Participating families also enjoyed a free lunch.
